Grab your thongs, (the footwear type, of course) and some sunscreen to explore the unique appeal of each Caloundra corner. There is a wealth of experiences to be had in every corner of Caloundra, from the calm waters of Golden Beach to the vibrant vibes of Kings Beach or the innovative spirit of Aura. Are you ready to discover which Caloundra suburb could just win your heart?
Caloundra’s suburbs offer a blend of coastal bliss and suburban comfort, making it a perfect destination for families, retirees, and everyone in between. If you’re considering a move to this sun-soaked region, here’s what you need to know about its charming suburbs
Golden Beach
Golden Beach is the ultimate chill zone. The calm waters of the Pumicestone Passage are perfect for paddle boarding or kayaking, especially in the early morning when the world is still waking up. And thereโs this little spot where you can hire everything you need for a day on the water. Plus, the coastal pathway here offers stunning views, perfect for that golden hour stroll.
Pelican Waters
Pelican Waters is a golferโs paradise. The Pelican Waters Golf Club is not just any course; itโs a Greg Norman-designed beauty that challenges and delights. But the waterways are the real secret โ winding canals where you can spot wildlife or cast a line. Thereโs a sense of tranquility here thatโs hard to find anywhere else.
Caloundra West
Aura, in Caloundra West, is like stepping into the future. This suburb is all about community and sustainability. Theyโve got parks that are more like mini-adventure lands, and the Aura Velodrome attracts cyclists from all over. Itโs this innovative spirit that makes Caloundra West a place where youโre not just moving to a suburb; youโre becoming part of a vision.
Little Mountain
Little Mountain is your slice of the countryside by the sea. The Corbould Park Racecourse here is a highlight, offering thrilling horse racing action. But for me, itโs the bushland reserves that are the true stars. There are walking tracks where you might not see another soul, giving you that peaceful escape right in your backyard.
Moffat Beach
Moffat Beach has this artsy, retro vibe thatโs utterly captivating. The surf break here is legendary, but itโs the little cafรฉs and the vintage shop that feels like a treasure trove, which are my go-to spots. And donโt get me started on the live music scene; itโs the soul of this suburb, making every visit a new experience.
Dicky Beach
Dicky Beach is family-friendly through and through. The beach is patrolled, making it safe for the kiddos, but itโs the SS Dicky shipwreck that provides a unique backdrop for adventurers and history buffs alike. The skate park nearby is a hit with the local groms, fostering a sense of community among the young (and young at heart).
Shelly Beach
Shelly Beach is your quiet corner of the world. Itโs not just the lack of crowds that makes it special; itโs the rock pools teeming with marine life and the hidden coves that feel like theyโre yours alone to discover. Itโs the perfect place for those who find peace in the sound of the waves.
Kings Beach
Kings Beach is where the action is. The oceanfront saltwater pool is a highlight, offering safe swimming with a view. But itโs the festivals and markets that transform this place into a vibrant hub of activity, bringing together locals and visitors in celebration of everything Caloundra has to offer.
Currimundi
Currimundi is a natural wonderland. Currimundi Lake is an adventurerโs dream, perfect for kayaking or exploring the conservation park. But itโs the community vibe at the local markets that really shows the heart of this suburb, where organic produce and handmade crafts are the mainstays.
Wurtulla
Wurtulla is all about beachside living. The unspoiled stretches of sand are perfect for morning jogs or sunset walks with the dog. And being so close to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital means weโve got some of the best medical facilities right on our doorstep, which is a big plus for the community.
Battery Hill
Battery Hill may be small, but it packs a punch. The views from the higher points are spectacular, especially as the sun sets over the ocean. Itโs a tight-knit community where backyard barbecues are the norm, and the local fish and chip shop is the place to be on a Friday night.
Aroona
Aroona is the hidden gem of Caloundra. Itโs the kind of place where kids still ride bikes to school and everyone stops to chat. The local park is the communityโs gathering spot, perfect for picnics or a friendly game of cricket. Itโs suburban living at its best.
Meridan Plains
Meridan Plains blends the best of both worlds โ close enough to the beaches but with a peaceful hinterland vibe. The Sunshine Coast Turf Club is a highlight, offering exciting race days and events. And the cycling paths that wind through the suburb are a great way to stay active and connected with nature.
Baringa
Baringa is the vibrant heart of the Aura community. Itโs not just about the modern amenities here but the community events that bring everyone together. The Baringa Town Square is a hub of activity, from pop-up food festivals to outdoor movie nights, showcasing the suburbโs lively spirit.
Community Spirit
There’s something special about the way folks in Caloundraโs suburbs come together. Whether itโs the annual Christmas market in Kings Beach or the community garden project in Little Mountain, there’s a warmth and willingness to connect that permeates these suburbs. Local events like the Caloundra Music Festival or the Pelican Waters Golf Tournament aren’t just events; they’re reunions. It’s this kind of spirit that turns neighbours into friends and makes every local spot, from cafes to corner stores, part of the community’s extended living room.
Natural Beauty
Living in Caloundra, you’re never more than a stone’s throw away from Mother Natureโs masterpieces. Take a morning stroll along Moffat Beach as the sun rises, or kayak through the serene waters of the Pumicestone Passage, and youโll feel a million miles from anywhere. The majestic view from the top of Mount Coolum is something every local swears by, and itโs these natural wonders that offer a daily reminder of how lucky we are to call this place home.
Recreational Activities
For anyone with a love for the great outdoors, Caloundra is your playground. Golf enthusiasts rave about the lush fairways of Pelican Waters, claiming thereโs no better place to land a hole-in-one with a backdrop of the Glasshouse Mountains.ย We also have the famous Caloundra Golf Club which is the place where the local play.ย Surfers, on the other hand, will tell you Moffat Beach has some of the best waves around, perfect for those looking to catch an early morning barrel. And let’s not forget the endless cycling and walking paths that weave through our suburbs, ensuring that staying active is as easy as stepping out your front door.
Cultural Hotspots
Moffat Beach might be famous for its surf, but the local arts scene is just as vibrant. Wander through any of the local galleries, and youโll find works inspired by our stunning landscapes and eclectic community. The Caloundra Street Fair is a showcase of local craftsmanship and live music, turning the main street into a kaleidoscope of creativity every Sunday. It’s this artistic energy that infuses our suburbs with a unique character, making each visit and experience an opportunity to discover something new.
Sustainable Living
Baringa, part of the Aura community, is not just another suburb; itโs a glimpse into the future of sustainable living. Here, solar panels glitter on rooftops, and community gardens flourish, providing a green blueprint for suburban development. The emphasis on eco-friendly practices goes beyond just conservation; itโs about creating a lifestyle that respects and integrates with the natural environment. Initiatives like car-sharing, water recycling, and green building standards arenโt just concepts here โ theyโre a way of life.
